Sustainability

Our Commitment

We partner with a women-owned factory in Bishkek that pays fair wages and employs mostly women, supporting economic opportunity and social progress.

Our environmental approach is just as intentional. We use locally sourced wool, vegetable-tanned leather, and minimal, recycled packaging to reduce our footprint at every step.

Materials & Waste

Minimal Packaging

Reducing waste is central to our values, and that starts with how we ship. Single pairs of Kyrgies are sent in domestically produced paper envelopes made with at least 50% recycled content and printed with water-based inks. They’re the most sustainable, durable option we’ve found for protecting your slippers in transit.

Larger orders ship in polybags made from 100% recycled materials, at least half of which is post-consumer waste.

Not One Gram Wasted

Wool is an incredibly versatile material, and we make sure none of it goes to waste. Every scrap left over in our factory is reused, whether as extra padding in our slippers or repurposed as natural insulation for buildings. It’s just one more way we reduce waste and maximize the value of this remarkable fiber.

Who Makes Your Kyrgies

A Women-Led Factory

We are committed to creating positive social impact by working with a women-owned and operated factory in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan that hires predominantly women and pays everyone a living wage. We believe that empowering women is crucial for sustainable development and social progress.

Ethical & Quality Production

Every pair of Kyrgies is carefully hand-crafted. The talented artisans that make Kyrgies are devoted to their craft. They work together to make sure that every product meets the high standards we set ourselves. They take their time, paying meticulous attention to every detail, in pursuit of a product that you will want to wear day after day.

Investing in the Kyrgyz Community

Beyond treating its employees fairly, our partner factory is a world leader in wool felting. Felt has been made around the world since prehistoric times. It has a special place in the cultural heritage of Central Asia. In fact, it was a vital part of the famous silk road trade route. The Kyrgies process begins at the source with raw wool that is collected from family-run farms across Kyrgyzstans's vast and mountainous country.

Our Partnerships

1% for the Planet

As proud members of 1% for the Planet, we donate a portion of every sale to environmental organizations working to protect and restore the planet. It’s one way we hold ourselves accountable to being a business that gives back.

FABSCRAP

We're proud to partner with FABSCRAP, a nonprofit that keeps textile waste out of landfills by collecting and reusing discarded fabric.

As part of this effort, you can choose to add a donation at checkout to support their work. Together, we're closing the loop on fashion waste one step at a time.
