Description
Kyrgies Wides feature a thick chrome-free leather suede sole.
Kyrgies All Naturals are built on a wider mold with less orthopedic shape to them. We recommend this model for those of you that have wider feet, or simply prefer a wider fit.
For people who suffer chemical sensitivities, these are the perfect pair of slippers. The felt is made of wool, water, natural soap, and low-impact dyes. The leather is tanned without chrome or chromium.
The leather soles are durable and provide excellent grip. Leather soles are a style that have a natural feel and have stood the test of time.
Kyrgies house shoes are handmade in Kyrgyzstan by artisans using felting techniques that are, literally, centuries old. By wearing Kyrgies, you are embracing an old tradition of felted wool that was originally developed on the steppes of Central Asia but spread around the Western World via the infamous Silk Road. While our modern lives have brought us many conveniences, some things simply can't be improved upon. Wool felted shoes are one of those things.
Each pair of Kyrgies house shoes is handcrafted by local, Kyrgyz artisans, who are paid a fair wage for their work. In fact, your purchase keeps our factory in operation, where 80% of employees are women. You can learn more by visiting our sustainability and craftsmanship pages.
Product Care
Our leather or felt-soled products are designed primarily for indoor comfort. While they can be worn outside, they are not intended for outdoor conditions.
For those who prefer outdoor use, our rubber-soled slippers are a suitable option. They're capable of outdoor wear but are not as robust as heavy-duty outdoor footwear. We recommend avoiding heavy rain or puddles with these as well.
Our slippers are crafted from wool felt, a material that is sensitive to water. Wool felt can lose its shape when wet, so machine washing is strongly discouraged. To keep your Kyrgies in top condition, we advise spot cleaning with a damp cloth and lukewarm water, followed by air drying. Dry cleaning is also a viable care option.
Sustainability & Craftsmanship
Are these house shoes as sustainable as the rest of the Kyrgies range
We’re proud to say they are! As a company, we’re concerned about what goes into the manufacturing processes of our house shoes and, as a result, onto our bodies. Our leather soled products use vegetable tanned leather soles rather than the highly toxic chromium normally employed in the tanning process. Our rubber soled products use natural latex that has been vulcanized to increase durability.
Our commitment to low-impact and socially-responsible fashion doesn’t end there, though. All of our wool is sourced from small, family-owned flocks, while our factory in Kyrgyzstan pays fair wages to all its staff. We also work closely with a range of nonprofits and environmental movements to ensure our net impact is positive. Find out more about our commitment to sustainability here.
FAQ
Does Kyrgies fit true to size?
Kyrgies come in European sizes. We have created conversions to US sizing based on extensive feedback from our customers over the years. Generally speaking, we suggest you follow our conversion. If you are in between sizes, we suggest that you order up. If you have a low volume foot, adding a pair of insoles to your order is a good way to get the correct length and without the slipper feeling too wide and roomy. For detailed information about sizing, please refer to our sizing guide on this page.
Can I throw my Kyrgies in the wash?
We don’t recommend it. All Kyrgies are made from felted wool and can easily shrink or lose their shape in the washing machine. It can also cause the leather soles on certain styles to bleed. If your Kyrgies are looking a little dirty, try spot cleaning with a dry brush, or if necessary, a gentle wool-friendly detergent and a damp cloth.Dry cleaning is also an option.
Can I wear my Kyrgies outside?
Our traditional models are meant for indoor use. Stepping outside in your leather sole Kyrgies won't ruin them, but it's not what they made for.Our Nomad and Walkabout styles for men, women, and children have a rubberized soles that created specifically for outdoor wear. These soles are durable and can be worn outside extensively. They can even be worn in cold snowy conditions. We still don't recommend getting your wool felt uppers very wet. They will absorb water and slush and won't be very cozy at that point.
