Tengries: Stylish wool house shoes perfect for your home office

Transport yourself from home to home office without even changing your shoes thanks to our smart, durable and exceedingly comfortable Tengries. Nothing better typifies the Kyrgies brand than these handmade felt house shoes, which will help you stay professional without compromising on comfort.

Available in six colorful shades and lovingly handcrafted by artisans in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Tengries are made from large sheets of wool felt that is cut and hand sewn into shape. As a result, they’re far softer and more pliable than our rolled felt house shoes. With their non-slip leather soles and elastic sewn into the fabric, they’re designed to adapt snugly to your feet, all while still allowing you to pull them on with ease. The result? House shoes so cozy they’ll be like a warm hug all the way up to your ankles.

They may look smart enough to be worn outside, but Tengries are strictly house shoes. While wool is your ultimate companion for making sweaty feet a thing of the past (they’re moisture-wicking and odor resistant, after all), felted wool doesn’t perform well in wet conditions. Where it does perform is within the home, on everything from carpet to hardwood floors. Tengries aren’t the ticket for taking out the garbage; instead, think of them as a house shoe that won’t make you blush when your boss catches sight of them on Zoom.

Talk to me about why Tengries are an eco-friendly choice

We never compromise on quality or conscious decision-making for any of our products. All of our house shoes have been made using low-impact dyes and are chemical-free, while our Tengries use a thicker, vegetable tanned leather on the sole — a tanning technique that avoids highly toxic chromium that can leach into and pollute waterways. As a result, our leather provides a thick, cushioned layer that adapts to your feet for absolute comfort.

What’s more, through our commitment to 1% for the Planet, we go out of our way to minimize our environmental impact, all while maximizing the positive social impact of adopting fair-trade practices at our factory in Kyrgyzstan. Product Care

Our leather or felt-soled products are designed primarily for indoor comfort. While they can be worn outside, they are not intended for outdoor conditions.

For those who prefer outdoor use, our rubber-soled slippers are a suitable option. They're capable of outdoor wear but are not as robust as heavy-duty outdoor footwear. We recommend avoiding heavy rain or puddles with these as well.

Our slippers are crafted from wool felt, a material that is sensitive to water. Wool felt can lose its shape when wet, so machine washing is strongly discouraged. To keep your Kyrgies in top condition, we advise spot cleaning with a damp cloth and lukewarm water, followed by air drying. Dry cleaning is also a viable care option.

Sustainability & Craftsmanship

Are these house shoes as sustainable as the rest of the Kyrgies range

We’re proud to say they are! As a company, we’re concerned about what goes into the manufacturing processes of our house shoes and, as a result, onto our bodies. Our leather soled products use vegetable tanned leather soles rather than the highly toxic chromium normally employed in the tanning process. Our rubber soled products use natural latex that has been vulcanized to increase durability.

Our commitment to low-impact and socially-responsible fashion doesn’t end there, though. All of our wool is sourced from small, family-owned flocks, while our factory in Kyrgyzstan pays fair wages to all its staff. We also work closely with a range of nonprofits and environmental movements to ensure our net impact is positive. Find out more about our commitment to sustainability here.

FAQ

What size should I order?

Many people prefer to order one size up in order to accommodate thick socks and to be able to pull them on more easily

Does Kyrgies fit true to size?

Kyrgies come in European sizes. We have created conversions to US sizing based on extensive feedback from our customers over the years. Generally speaking, we suggest you follow our conversion. If you are in between sizes, we suggest that you order up.

If you have a low volume foot, adding a pair of insoles to your order is a good way to get the correct length and without the slipper feeling too wide and roomy. For detailed information about sizing, please refer to our sizing guide on this page

If you do find that your slipper doesn't fit perfectly, our returns policy means you can quickly and easily swap for the size you need.

Can I throw my Kyrgies in the wash?

We don’t recommend it. All Kyrgies are made from felted wool and can easily shrink or lose their shape in the washing machine. It can also cause the leather soles on certain styles to bleed. If your Kyrgies are looking a little dirty, try spot cleaning with a dry brush, or if necessary, a gentle wool-friendly detergent and a damp cloth. Dry cleaning is also an option.

If the worst happens and you have an accident with bacon grease or similar (yup, we've all done it), a trip to your local dry cleaners should return your shoes to new.

Can I wear my Kyrgies outside?

Unfortunately, any showcasing of your brand new shoes should take place inside the home. Kyrgies are designed to face the Great Indoors. However, our Tengries Walkabouts are a different story.

Our Tengries Walkabouts for men and women have rubberized soles that are created specifically for outdoor wear. These soles are durable and can be worn outside extensively. They can even be worn in cold snowy conditions. We still don't recommend getting your wool felt uppers very wet. They will absorb water and slush and won't be very cozy at that point.

Bringing the Ancient Power of Wool Felt to Your Home

We create products for people that care about where their clothing comes from. People that also consider their homes to be a special place and look forward to the ritual of arriving home, taking off outdoor shoes, and embracing their Kyrgies.
