Kyrgies Classic: Stylishly simple felted wool slippers

Classic in design and classic in name: our Classic felted wool slippers are our original Kyrgies style. While our designs might have changed across the years, the quality, comfort and classic craftsmanship of these wool house shoes has not. Think timeless, indoor fashion that's the perfect fit for lounging, relaxing and embarking on the Great Indoors.

Thousands of years of artisanship and tradition go into every pair of Kyrgies. Luxuriously soft on your feet, our slip on house shoes are handcrafted from rolled wool felt using techniques borne upon the steppes of Central Asia centuries ago. Made from all-natural wool taken from small, family-herded flocks in Kyrgyzstan, these classic indoor slippers make the best of their natural properties: wool is both moisture-wicking and odor resistant, keeping your feet warm and dry, whatever the season.

Kyrgies Classics feature a non-slip sole for stability on hardwood floors, as well as a low back to make them easy to slip on or off, these Kyrgies will quickly become a staple of your comfy, stay-at-home style.

What makes Kyrgies Classics such a sustainable choice of house shoe?

Part of the magic of all of our Kyrgies slippers is how minimal their environmental impact is. Our Classics contain just four materials: wool, glue (made from natural rubber), polyester felt and silicone grips. 90% of the wool comes from small-scale, family-run farms situated close to our factory in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, while our use of low-impact dyes and water waste treatment facilities limit the environmental impact of making our boiled wool slippers.

Each pair of Kyrgies house shoes is handcrafted by local, Kyrgyz artisans, who are paid a fair wage for their work. In fact, your purchase keeps our factory in operation, where 80% of employees are women. You can learn more by visiting our sustainability and craftsmanship pages.

FAQS

These look so comfortable! Can I wear my new Kyrgies outdoors?

However much you might be tempted, we strongly recommend keeping your Kyrgies as indoor slippers. Wet conditions can cause wool felt to shrink or become misshapen; so, to keep your shoes in optimum condition, reserve them for use as part of your home uniform.

What size do you recommend I buy?

As our slippers are handcrafted, there’s a small chance that the sizing may vary, even if you’ve previously bought one size and found it fitted perfectly. If you’re between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger one. Once your Kyrgies have arrived, if they are the incorrect size, we do offer a quick and easy returns service so you can swap for one that fits.

How do I clean my Kyrgies?

We can’t stress this enough: please do not clean your Kyrgies with water! Thanks to the natural properties of the felted wool which they’re made of, your brand new house slippers should avoid retaining odor and continue smelling like roses for their lifetime. However, if you do spill grease or any other liquid that stains, a quick trip to the dry cleaners will return them back to new.

Are these house shoes as sustainable as the rest of the Kyrgies range

We’re proud to say they are! As a company, we’re concerned about what goes into the manufacturing processes of our house shoes and, as a result, onto our bodies. Our leather soled products use vegetable tanned leather soles rather than the highly toxic chromium normally employed in the tanning process. Our rubber soled products use natural latex that has been vulcanized to increase durability.

Our commitment to low-impact and socially-responsible fashion doesn’t end there, though. All of our wool is sourced from small, family-owned flocks, while our factory in Kyrgyzstan pays fair wages to all its staff. We also work closely with a range of nonprofits and environmental movements to ensure our net impact is positive. Find out more about our commitment to sustainability here.

Kyrgies Sizing

The sizing on our product pages is a translation of the European sizing that is stamped on the bottom of our slippers.

As with all handmade products, sizing can vary from slipper to slipper, despite the careful work of our artisans in Kyrgyzstan. To avoid disappointment, if you're between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger shoe.

For more sizing details, please refer to this sizing guide.

If you do find that your slipper doesn't fit perfectly, our returns policy means you can quickly and easily swap for the size you need.

Our leather or felt-soled products are designed primarily for indoor comfort. While they can be worn outside, they are not intended for outdoor conditions.

For those who prefer outdoor use, our rubber-soled slippers are a suitable option. They're capable of outdoor wear but are not as robust as heavy-duty outdoor footwear. We recommend avoiding heavy rain or puddles with these as well.

Our slippers are crafted from wool felt, a material that is sensitive to water. Wool felt can lose its shape when wet, so machine washing is strongly discouraged. To keep your Kyrgies in top condition, we advise spot cleaning with a damp cloth and lukewarm water, followed by air drying. Dry cleaning is also a viable care option.
